ALBANY – State University of New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher announced 77 recipients of the 2016-17 Scholar Athlete Award, which recognizes outstanding academic excellence and athletic achievement.

Among those winners were a pair of Monroe Community College sophomores - swimmer Megan Mack and lacrosse player Charity Warner.

"It takes a tremendous amount of dedication and hard work to achieve such a high level of academic and athletic success," Zimpher said in a release. "Congratulations to all of the students receiving this year's SUNY Scholar Athlete Award, as well as the faculty, coaches, and staff across SUNY who support and inspire them to be the best."

In order to be considered for this award, student-athletes were nominated by their campus athletic director. Nominees' academic credentials and athletic accomplishments were then reviewed by a panel of athletic directors from across the SUNY system and members of the SUNY provost's office.

Mack has starred for two seasons for the Tribune women's swimming and diving program. She was the 2017 Co-Region III/Northeast District Swimmer of the Year, as well as the NJCAA Non-Scholarship Female Swimmer of the Year after a tremendous display at the national championship meet.

Warner helped guide the 2016 MCC women's lacrosse team to the NJCAA national title and has the unbeaten Tribunes poised to make another run at the title this season.  A first team NJCAA All-American as a freshman, Warner was also a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.
