Markou, Hahn honored by WNYAC

BUFFALO - MCC student-athletes Eleni Markou and Christie Hahn were honored as the Western New York Athletic Conference handed out its season-ending awards.

Markou was named the WNYAC's Co-Freshman Female Athlete of the Year, while Hahn was recognized as the Sophomore Female Athlete of the Year.

A freshman forward from Kastoria, Greece, Markou led the MCC women's soccer (14-3-3) team to Region III and District E titles and a third-place finish at the NJCAA national tournament. She was named the Region III Player of the Year, the NSCAA National Player of the Year, and a first-team All-American by both the NJCAA and NSCAA. 

Markou finished the season with 29 goals, 11 assists, and 69 points. Her goal total was good for No. 6 in the country, and she was seventh in total points.  Markou scored two or more goals in a game on 10 different occasions and finished with five hat tricks. She was named to the all-tournament team at nationals.

Hahn helped guide the MCC women's lacrosse team to a 15-0 record and the program's fifth straight NJCAA national championship this spring. She finished the season with 39 goals, while leading the nation in both assists (47) and total points (86).

A 2017 All-Region III selection as well as a first team NJCAA All-American, Hahn made the all-tournament team at both regionals and nationals. She finished her career with 66 goals and 91 assists, and her 157 total points is good for third on MCC's all-time list.
