ROCHESTER - The Monroe Community College men’s and women’s basketball programs, in conjunction with their counterparts from Genesee Community College, helped raise over $1,200 as part of their Coaches vs. Cancer event to benefit the American Cancer Society on Thursday, Jan. 31.
All proceeds from the games, in addition to funds raised from previous activities that took place at both schools, were donated. MCC also welcomed four cancer survivors, who were honored and recognized at halftime of the men’s game. Mike Crisona, Youth Initiatives Recruiter at the American Cancer Society, was on hand to accept the donation.
Members of both MCC teams hit the campus Wednesday afternoon selling cards that could be personalized with a name or message. The cards were displayed on the wall of the gym during Thursday's games.
The evening was capped by a pair of Tribune victories. The Monroe men won 80-66 to move to 20-2 on the season, while the women won their 16th straight game, 88-46, to improve to 17-4 on the year.
