ROCHESTER - MCC sophomore Matt Brooks was selected by the Miami Marlins in the 35th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft over the weekend.

Brooks, a 6-foot, 190-pound outfielder from Auburn, NY, was the catalyst for an MCC team that went 33-16, won regional and district championships, and appeared in the NJCAA Division II World Series.

Monroe's leadoff hitter, Brooks batted .352 with 12 doubles, eight triples, three home runs, and 43 RBIs. He added 57 runs scored, 58 hits, and 15 stolen bases. Brooks also drew 33 walks and had an on base percentage of .466.

Brooks finished his two-year MCC career with a batting average of .353 (97-for-275) with 20 doubles and 11 triples. He was a 2016 first team All-Region III selection.
