Niagara holds off Monroe in regular season finale

ROCHESTER - The MCC men's basketball team dropped its regular season finale to Niagara County Community College Saturday afternoon, falling 88-83 in a thrilling WNYAC clash.

The Tribunes suffered their first conference defeat of the season, but still have the top seed and will host the Region III, Division II Final Four next Saturday and Sunday. 

Monroe wraps up the regular season 11-1 in the WNYAC and 21-4 overall.

The Thunderwolves built a double-digit lead midway through the second half before the Tribunes started to climb back into it. Izaha Jackson came up with a layup and followed with a 3 to cut the Niagara lead to 79-78 with 2:23 remaining.

The Thunderwolves countered with a 7-1 run that took the clock down under 30 seconds, and the Tribunes were unable to complete the comeback.

Jackson finished with a team-high 21 points for Monroe. Damon Miraud added 19 points and 10 rebounds and ShaQuan Bretoux added 11 points and seven boards.

Darwin Trotman and Dykweil Bryan chipped in with eight points apiece.
