MCC men head to nationals in search of first title

DANVILLE, Illinois - The Monroe Community College men's basketball team will be in Illinois next week to take part in the NJCAA Division II national tournament, hosted by Danville Area Community College.

The Tribunes (24-4) earned the eighth seed and will open up against Parkland College in Tuesday's first round.  Tip off is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. Eastern time. All games from the tournament will be streamed live via NJCAA TV

MCC qualified for nationals by way of a 69-49 win over Community College of Rhode Island in the District II championship game last Saturday. That came on the heels of an 87-83 win overJamestown community College in the Region III title game Feb. 28.

The Tribunes are in search of their first NJCAA national title. Monroe's best finish was in 2007, when the team reached the championship game before falling to Mott Community College. This is MCC's first appearance at nationals since 2013.
