Tribunes top Cecil, advance to 7th/8th game

DANVILLE, Illinois - The Monroe Community College men's basketball team lived to see one more game after a 93-78 victory over Cecil College in the consolation bracket of the NJCAA Division II national tournament Friday afternoon.

The Tribunes (26-5) will take on South Mountain Community College at 1 p.m. Eastern Saturday in the 7th/8th place game to wrap up the season.

Monroe took advantage of a huge edge on the glass to control the flow of the game. MCC outrebounded the Seahawks 28-11 in the first half to take a 57-31 lead into the locker room. 

The Tribunes had 51 rebounds total on the game, compared to 35 for Cecil.

Romaine Thomas came off the bench to register a double-double for Monroe, finishing with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Isaiah Davis added 17 points, and Darwin Trotman barely missed out on a triple-double after finishing with 16 points, nine assists, and eight boards.

Damon Miraud had 14 points, nine rebounds, and five assists, Dykweil Bryan scored 12, and Izaha Jackson chipped in with 10 for the Tribunes.
