Tribs rout South Mountain, claim seventh place

DANVILLE, Illinois - The MCC men's basketball team wrapped up the season with a convincing, 108-80 victory over South Mountain Community College on Saturday to claim seventh place at the NJCAA Division II national tournament.

After losing by two points in the tournament opener to Parkland on Tuesday, the Tribunes proceeded to outscore their next three opponents by 56 points. MCC finishes 27-5 on the season.

Monroe shot 52 percent from the field in putting up its second-highest point total of the season. Isaiah Davis led six players in double figures with 26, including five 3-pointers. He also pulled down six rebounds.

Darwin Trotman had another tremendous all-around game. The sophomore guard was 8-for-11 from the floor and scored 16 to go along with seven rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Damon Miraud chipped in with 14 points and nine boards.

MCC put the game away early, racing to a 55-33 lead at the break.

Izaha Jackson hit three 3's and scored 13 to go along with five assists for MCC. Denzel Banks tallied 12 points, and Dykweil Bryan added 11 points and six assists. The Tribunes had 24 assists on the game.
