MCC men look to hit stride heading to regionals

ROCHESTER - The MCC men's basketball team will begin postseason play Friday night in the quarterfinal round of the Region III, Division II men's basketball tournament.

The defending regional champion Tribunes (16-10) are seeded third in the tournament after going 6-4 in Western New York Athletic Conference play during the regular season. MCC will take on fourth-seeded Jamestown CC (5-5 WNYAC, 17-12 overall) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The tournament will be hosted by Niagara County Community College. The Thunderwolves earned the right to host by finishing first in the regular season conference standings.

The Tribunes defeated Jamestown in both games during the regular season, winning 86-76 at home on Feb. 1 and 82-75 on the road on Feb. 18.

The Monroe/Jamestown winner advances to Saturday's semifinals, where they will face No. 2 Genesee at 3 p.m.  Niagara will take on the winner of Erie CC and Community College of Rhode Island at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Sunday's championship game is at 1 p.m. The winner of the tournament will move on to the NJCAA Division II national tournament, March 21-25, in Danville, Ill.
