ROCHESTER - MCC sophomore Majesty Brandon was named the Region III, Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Year following a vote by the region's coaches.
Also a first team All-Region selection, the 6-foot guard led the Tribunes (14-13) as well as the region in scoring. He was joined by fellow sophomore guard Gilberto Cue, who was named to the third team.
Brandon was a high-volume scorer who demanded the attention of the defense any time he was on the court. He averaged 21.4 points per game and went over the 1,000-point mark in MCC's regular season finale against Jamestown.
Brandon scored 20 or more points 17 times and eclipsed 30 five times. He registered a season-high 35 points in an 80-74 loss to Jamestown in the first round of the regional tournament.
He scored 30 or more in three straight games from Feb. 4-9 to bring home regional and national Player of the Week honors. Brandon shot 46 percent overall from the field, 40 percent from 3-point land, and 73.5 percent from the foul line. He led the team in 3-pointers made with 68.
Cue was a consistent two-year performer for the Tribunes. The guard averaged 9.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per contest while keeping defenses honest with his ability to shoot from deep. Cue knocked down 46 3's on the season.
