MCC golfers bring home two titles

BALDWINSVILLE, New York - The MCC golf team took to the links over the weekend and captured their first two tournaments of the 2016 season.

The Tribunes fired a 327 on Highland Park Golf Course on Friday to win the Nicholas J. DeSocio Memorial Invitational hosted by Cayuga Community College. Monroe then followed with a 310 at Timber Banks on Saturday to take first at the Onondaga CC Tournament.

Jackson Mordaunt paced MCC on a tough Highland Park on Friday. The sophomore carded a 78 to lead the Tribunes to a three-shot victory over Niagara and Mohawk Valley. Connor Goss shot an 81, Tyler Hockenberger fired an 82, and Michael Long an 85 to round out the scoring.

The Tribunes rounded into form at Timber Banks on Saturday with four rounds in the 70s. Mordaunt, Goss, and Long all shot 77s and Joshua DeSain was right beind with a 79 as Monroe took the team title by 11 strokes over Mohawk Valley.

Hockenberger (80) and Tim Oppedisano (82) also had solid rounds on Saturday.

The Tribunes are back in action next weekend. MCC is at Oneida Community Golf Course in the Mohawk Valley Invite on Friday, and will take on Nazareth College in a dual match at Monroe Golf Club Saturday.
