Tribs rout Hudson Valley on Sophomore Day

ROCHESTER - The MCC men's lacrosse program said goodbye to its eight sophomores in a pregame ceremony and then dispatched Hudson Valley Community College 25-6 in the team's regular season finale Saturday afternoon.

The Tribunes (10-4) locked up the three-seed in the upcoming Region III tournament. Monroe will face second-seeded Genesee CC at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Onondaga Community College in the semifinals.

David Lehman had four goals and two assists and sophomores Kasey Olsen (three goals, one assist) and Matt McDowell (two goals, four assists) also contributed in a big way as the Tribunes prepped for the postseason in style. Monroe led 5-2 after the first quarter before outscoring the Vikings 8-0 in the second to take a commanding lead into the locker room.

Lehman had three of his four goals during that game-changing second stanza.

MCC then tallied seven more times in the third quarter to turn the game into a rout. Fifteen different players ended up finding the back of the cage for the Tribunes on the day.

Curtis Raymond finished with three goals and Ryan Nicholson and Jake Moss added two apiece for Monroe. Connor Nicholson added a goal and two assists and Ian Mohr had one goal and one helper.

Andrew Kausch and Andrew Barreca combined to stop 12 shots in goal. Richard Scacchetti won 18-of-29 faceoffs and picked up a game-high eight ground balls.

Monroe honored eight sophomores before the game: Andrew Barreca, Matt McDowell, Jeremy Powers, Brady Fahy, Kasey Olsen, Adrian Pinkard, Ian Mohr, Emilio Petricola.
