Monroe men increase lead at regionals

ROCHESTER - The MCC men's swimming and diving team increased its lead heading into the final day of the 2016 Region III/Northeast District championship meet.

The Tribunes have a point total of 381 after Saturday's second round. Herkimer College is in second at 205. 

Saturday's action started with an MCC victory in the 200 medley relay. Kyle Callan, Michael Loucks, Ayoub Tahiri, and Jason Cook won in a time of 1:46.32.

Tahiri then came out victorious in the 100 fly in what could have been the race of the meet thus far. His winning time of 55.32 was just three-tenths of a second ahead of Lyle Wagner of Genesee, and the top three finishers were within a second of each other.

Cook followed with a win in the 200 free (1:51.95), narrowly edging out teammate Ilya Shinkeyev (1:52.42). 

Mariano Lopez won the 100 breast (1:08.92) and Loucks touched first in the 100 back (58.45) for the Tribunes.

Jon Manwarren, Shinkeyev, Austin Woerner, and Cook won the 800 free relay in 7:44.67.
