Tribune men remain second heading to final day of regionals

ROCHESTER - The MCC men's swimming and diving team maintained its hold on second place after the second day of the 2017 Region III/Northeast District championship meet Saturday evening.

The Tribunes sit comfortably in the runner-up position with 283 points heading to Sunday's final events. However, MCC has a ways to go to catch Genesee, which leads with 328 points.

Herkimer College is third with 204.

Monroe's 200 medley relay team of Caleb Puzio, Maclaine Conner, Ben Metzger, and Alex Parks started Saturday's finals heats with a win in a time of 1:42.74. Jon Manwarren (4:46.73) and Conner (4:52.97) then went 3-4 in the 400 IM.

Metzger put up a second-place finish in the 100 fly (55.48), followed by Puzio's runner-up effort in the 200 free (1:52.59).

Conner got the Tribunes back in the winner's circle by taking the 100 breast in a time of 1:04.41, finishing just five-hundredths of a second ahead of Queensborough's Tomas Skukauskas.

Puzio then took second in the 100 back (59.62), and joined Manwarren, Patrick Marsh, and Metzger to take second in the 800 free relay (7:34.50).
