AUBURN, NY - The MCC softball team pounded out 36 hits in a doubleheader sweep of host Cayuga Community College Sunday afternoon.
The Tribunes had 18 hits in both the 8-2 win in game one, as well as the 13-3 victory in the nightcap. Monroe has won seven in a row and is now 14-7 on the season.
The top three in the batting order - Lexy Rouse, Tori Thuman, and Morgan Boyce - all went 4-for-5 in the opener. The trio also combined for a rare event: back-to-back-to-back homers in the third inning.
Hannah Evingham chipped in with three hits and a pair of RBIs.
The hitting backed a solid performance from pitcher Amanda Colon, who allowed one earned run on just seven hits while striking out 11 in the complete game effort.
Evingham continued to swing a hot bat in the nightcap, as the sophomore first baseman finished 3-for-4 with two home runs and four runs batted in. Thuman and Boyce added three hits apiece and Amanda Gillen homered and drove in three.
Bri Wagner got the win on the mound, tossing five innings and striking out six.
