ROCHESTER - The MCC softball team dropped a pair of contests to Mercyhurst North East in a Western New York Athletic Conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.

The Saints (32-12) won 8-1 and 10-2. MCC falls to 5-7 overall with the defeats.

Mercyhurst jumped out to a quick lead in the opener, as Asja Johnson connected on a home run to left field in the top of the first. The Saints then tacked on three runs in the third and three more in the fourth to open things up.

Monroe got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Brooke Catlin lined a one-out double to left and then moved to third on a single by Camille Harrison. Catlin then scored on a wild pitch.

The Tribunes had six hits on the game, with Maria Marcera, Jen Newell, Madi Ball, and Tessa Douglas adding one apiece.

MCC jumped out to an early lead in Game 2. Marcera led off the bottom of the first with a triple and scored on Newell's sacrifice bunt. But the Saints responded with four in the top of the second to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Monroe had a golden opportunity to cut into the lead in the fifth, getting two runners aboard with two outs. Hannah DelGatto then drove a pitch to deep center, but Mercyhurst center fielder Wilmari Guzman made a terrific over-the-shoulder catch to end the threat.

The Tribunes tacked on one more run in the sixth. Camryn Bianchi doubled, moved to third on an error, and scored on a base hit by Douglas.

Marcera and Bianchi finished with two hits apiece in the nightcap.
