ROCHESTER - The MCC women's basketball team rode a big second quarter on its way to an 80-54 victory over visiting Niagara County Community College Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the ninth-ranked Tribunes moved to 7-0 in the Western New York Athletic Conference and 19-3 overall. The Thunderwolves fall to 5-2 and 22-4 overall, giving Monroe a two-game cushion in the conference standings.
Leading 17-13 after one quarter, MCC took command by outscoring Niagara 27-13 in the second frame. Lanay Rodney was 4-for-6 from the floor, knocked down a 3, and scored 11 of her game-high 22 in the second to help MCC take an 18-point lead into the locker room.
A stingy Tribune defense took over from there, holding any Thunderwolf rally attempt at bay to ease to the victory. MCC held Niagara to 28 percent shooting and forced 26 turnovers.
