Green sets new mark from 3 as Monroe gets past Jamestown

ROCHESTER - Sophomore Sierra Green set an MCC single-game record with 12 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 41 points as the top-ranked MCC women's basketball team held off Jamestown Community College 101-89 in a matchup of the top two teams in the Western New York Athletic Conference.

Green connected on six 3's in each half to help Monroe (5-0 WNYAC, 15-1 overall) overcome an early 9-point hole. She broke the mark of 10, which she shared with Niki Avery.

The Jayhawks started strong behind the play of Alexis Rodenbaugh and took a 21-12 lead late in the first quarter.  MCC responded with seven straight to cut the lead to two.

The Tribunes then outscored Jamestown 35-17 in the second quarter to open a 16-point lead at the half. Green was 6-for-9 from the floor, including five 3's, in the frame and Lanay Rodney added 12 to give Monroe momentum at the break.

Jamestown fought back in the third thanks in large part to Rodenbaugh, who was 10-for-11 from the floor and scored 22 of her own 41 points in the frame as the Jayhawks tried to claw back in it. But Green cashed in on four more 3's in the fourth to help Monroe clinch the win.

Rodney finished with 26 points and eight rebounds and Torrie Cash added 19 points, five rebounds, and four assists for the Tribunes.
