Tribunes trip up Sullivan in Shapiro opener

MCC Women's Basketball

ROCHESTER - The top-ranked MCC women's basketball team forced 28 turnovers to key a 63-43 victory over Sullivan County Community College in the opener of the sixth annual Murph Shapiro Tournament Saturday afternoon.

The Tribunes (2-0) also held the Generals to just 25 percent shooting (14-for-56) to offset a rather cold day from the field themselves. Monroe turned the Sullivan miscues into 21 points.

Six different players scored as the Tribunes opened a 19-11 after one quarter. The lead was 33-20 at the break.

Monroe then put it away in the third, holding Sullivan to 1-of-16 from the floor and just four points.

Samirah Henderson led the way with 12 points and five rebounds on the game for MCC. Lyrik' Jackson added 10 points, while Dakaylah Winfield had eight points and three steals.

Cierra Harrison and Jamiya Eaddy scored seven apiece, and Kendra Lawton chipped in with nine rebounds and three steals. Zairea Hannah also pulled down nine boards.
