ARNOLD, Maryland - The top-ranked MCC women's lacrosse team captured a pair of victories in a weekend trip through Maryland.
The Lady Tribunes (4-0) defeated Harford Community College 22-12 on Friday before dispatching Anne Arundel Community College 19-7 on Saturday. The victories pushed Monroe's winning streak to 54 games.
Harford hung tough with MCC, and a Fighting Owls goal midway through the first half cut the Tribune lead to 5-4. But MCC responded with a 9-1 run to close out the half and take a 14-5 lead into the break.
The Owls went goal-for-goal in the second half and performed well on draws, but Monroe's first-half surge proved to be the difference in the game.
Devon McKercher chipped in with two goals, three assists, and four ground balls for MCC. Morgan Hollenbeck scored twice and Dana Kiselica added one goal. Melissa Moran totaled four ground balls and caused four turnovers.
Sarah Brown made 10 saves in goal.
The Tribunes were engaged in another close contest against Anne Arundel before pulling away in the second half. MCC led just 7-5 at the intermission before outscoring the Riverhawks 12-2 over the final 30 minutes.
McKercher had a huge game for Monroe, finishing with five goals, four assists, and three ground balls. Beatson registered a hat trick and Hahn added two goals and four assists.
