MCC women top seed for this weekend's regionals

SYRACUSE - Fresh off an unbeaten regular season, the MCC women's lacrosse team will take its No. 1 national ranking and a 64-game winning streak into this weekend's Region III tournament at Onondaga Community College.

The top-seeded Tribunes (14-0) will face fourth-seeded Jefferson CC at 12 p.m. Saturday in the semifinals. No. 2 Onondaga and No. 3 Erie will follow in the other semifinal.

Sunday's championship game is slated for a 1 p.m. start.

At stake for MCC is a sixth straight regional title as well as a trip to the national tournament, which Monroe will host May 14 and 15 on DiMarco Field. Two teams from Region III advance to nationals, so a win on Saturday will book a return trip for the three-time defending NJCAA champion Tribunes.

MCC is the top-scoring team in the nation with an average of 20.4 goals per game. The Tribunes are also the stingiest club in the NJCAA, allowing just 3.6 per contest. Monroe has a well-rounded attack, with Nicole Beatson, Gianna Branca, and Christie Hahn all tied for the team lead with 55 points.
