Monroe pulls away to top Anne Arundel

ARNOLD, Maryland - The MCC women's lacrosse team survived a second-half rally to defeat host Anne Arundel 23-13 Monday evening.

The Tribunes (6-0) led by six at the break before the Riverhawks rattled off three straight to cut the lead in half with 24:27 to play. Janee DeLuca then scored twice in a row and Taylor Excell added a free position goal to restore a six-goal lead.

Monroe closed out the game by scoring four straight over the final 5:42 to put it away.

The first half was a hotly-contested affair. The teams battled back and forth, and a pair of scores from Anne Arundel tied the game at five with 12:33 to play. But MCC responded with an 8-2 run down the stretch to take a 13-7 lead into the locker room.

Incredibly, eight different players found the back of the net during the run. DeLuca and Kendall Jones were responsible for a goal and an assist apiece.

DeLuca and Christie Hahn each finished with four goals and two assists on the game for Monroe. Charity Warner also scored four times, and Jones added two goals and two assists. Adriana Williams, Excell, and Morgan Hollenbeck all scored twice.

Dana Isaacs chipped in with a goal and an assist, and Kendall Skuse and Kyli-Marie Towner scored once.

Sarah Annable made 12 saves in goal for the Tribunes. Williams had a solid all-around game. In addition to her two scores, the freshman added a game-high seven ground balls while also causing four turnovers.
