Monroe races past Anne Arundel

ARNOLD, Maryland - Maliah Benedetto's huge game paced the MCC women's lacrosse team to a 21-8 victory over host Anne Arundel Community College in the first game of a three-game roadtrip for the Lady Tribunes.

Benedetto had five goals and three assists for a career-high eight points for Monroe (3-0). The freshman midfielder also tallied three ground balls, three draw controls, and forced three Riverhawk turnovers.

MCC, which has now won 86 straight games, plays at Frederick Wednesday and Harford Thursday to wrap up the trip.

Benedetto tallied the game's first goal a little over a minute in to give Monroe the early lead. After the Tribunes secured the ensuing draw, Adriana Williams scored the first of her five goals to make it 2-0.

It was 3-1 before MCC went on a 7-0 run to take command. Janee DeLuca and Kenzie Donahue scored twice apiece during the run. Monroe led 14-4 at the half.

DeLuca finished with four goals and two assists and Donahue had three goals and one assist for the Tribunes. Brittany Chamberlain tacked on a goal and three assists, while Kyrsten Stone, Fran Messura, and Se'Anna Beikirch scored one apiece.

Chamberlain, Messura, and Beikirch all secured four draws apiece for MCC, which held a 19-11 edge in that category. Emma Moulton and Jessica Schiefen each caused three of Anne Arundel's 28 turnovers.

Jessica Covell made seven saves in goal for Monroe.
