ROCHESTER - The ASA College Avengers got the best of Monroe Community College on the way to a 4-0 victory in the season opener for both teams Friday afternoon.
Four different players found the back of the net for ASA, and Avenger keeper Sarah Dienart was fabulous in stopping six Tribune shots to earn the shutout.
Sara Suarez Quevedo got ASA on the board in the fifth minute off a crossing pass from Fabiana Dos Reyes. The Avengers then added to the lead in the 16th minute. Ilana Mendonca took a point blank shot but was stopped by Monroe keeper Caitie Broderick. Stephanie Reyes was there to gather the rebound, however, and put it in for a 2-0 lead.
The Tribunes had their best opportunity early in the second half. Elin Eklund had a point-blank look but was turned away by a sprawling Dienart. Marla Roberts was there to chip in the rebound, but Dienart again made the stop from the ground to keep Monroe off the board.
Dos Reyes converted a penalty kick in the 84th minute, and Mendonca added the final goal in the 86th to close out the scoring.
Broderick finished with eight saves for the Tribunes.
