ROCHESTER - Eleni Markou had two goals and an assist to lead the MCC women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Schoolcraft College Saturday afternoon.
The freshman tallied once in each half for the Tribunes. She also assisted on Elin Eklund's score late in the second half as Monroe improved to 1-1 on the season.
The Tribunes got on the board in the 14th minute. Eklund sent a pass to Markou, who beat the Ocelet keeper high into the net for a 1-0 lead. MCC maintained that advantage into the half.
Markou struck again in the 69th minute. Gabriella Hallnan played a centering pass in front of the goal, and the ball bounced off a pair of players before Markou found it and put it in.
Eklund finished off the scoring in the 75th minute, with Markou assisting.
Keepers Caitie Broderick and Kirsten Lane combined to keep Schoolcraft off the board for the Tribunes. Broderick stopped four shots over the first 85 minutes, while Lane closed it out with a point-blank save in the final minutes to preserve the shutout.
