ROCHESTER - Sophomore keeper Caitie Broderick stopped 13 shots to help the 18th-ranked MCC women's soccer team play to a 1-1 tie with No. 9 Monroe College on DiMarco Field Saturday.
The Tribunes moved to 1-3-2 on the season, while the Mustangs are now 3-0-1.
Broderick came up big all afternoon for MCC. She thwarted a Monroe College opportunity midway through the first overtime, coming out to snuff a breakaway by Mustang Bruna Tavarez. Broderick then stopped two more in the second OT, including a point blank blast from Veronica Marques two minutes in.
Ten of Broderick's 13 saves came in the second half and overtimes.
Monroe College broke through in the 33rd minute. The Mustangs got a corner kick and played the ball short. Brooke Smith and Elysa Virella then worked a perfect give-and-go, with Smith's shot finding the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
The Tribunes bounced back in the 41st minute. Monroe College was whistled for a foul just outside the box, and on the restart, Tenysha Taylor showed a deft touch by lofting a perfect shot over Mustang keeper Marta Alemany to tie it at 1.
It would remain that way through the remainder of the game as the two rivals battled to the draw.
Monroe College held a 19-6 edge in total shots. Each team attempted two corner kicks.
