MCC wins 18th straight regional title

ROCHESTER - Championship game MVP Tenysha Taylor had a goal and three assists to lead the MCC women's soccer team to a 10-0 win over Mercyhurst North East Saturday for the program's 18th consecutive Region III title.

The Tribunes (10-3-1) move on to the District E tournament, which Monroe will host Nov. 5 and 6 on DiMarco Field. The winner of that tournament advances to NJCAA Division I nationals.

MCC wasted little time taking control. The Tribunes took a 1-0 lead in the third minute as Gabby Hallnan sent a perfect cross to Eleni Markou, who headed it in for the eventual winner.

Hallnan then got one herself with Taylor assisting, and Elin Eklund scored off a feed from Markou to make it 3-0 in the 13th minute.

Monroe then effectively put the game away with a pair of goals in a span of 27 seconds to make it 5-0. Taylor tallied the first goal in the 18th minute and then assisted on another by Hallnan as the Tribunes continued their dominance.

Bianey Serrano found the back of the net in the 29th minute, controlling the rebound off an Eklund shot and putting it home for a 6-0 lead the team would take into the locker room.

Monroe tallied four more times in the second half. Marla Roberts had two of the scores, while Markou and Bayley Kralik added the others. Markou also assisted on the final two goals to finish a seven-point afternoon.

MCC outshot the Saints 45-0 on the day. Caitie Broderick and Kirsten Lane combined for the clean sheet in goal for Monroe.
