KANSAS CITY, Missouri – MCC sophomore Roosa Ariyo has been named the Junior College Division I Women's National Player of the Year, the United Soccer Coaches announced on Thursday.
The award caps an incredible season for the second-year forward from Helsinki, Finland. Ariyo was named an NJCAA and USC first team All-American last week after leading the nation in goals and points and helping guide Monroe (15-5-0) to an appearance at the national tournament.
The United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Year awards recognize outstanding individuals from the association's All-America teams at the youth through college ranks. Ariyo is the second Tribune in the past three seasons to be so honored, joining Eleni Markou in 2016.
Ariyo set new MCC marks for goals in a game (8), goals in a season (55), and goals in a career (79). Ariyo also established new team standards for single-season points (128) and career points (182).
National Players of the Year will be honored for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Jan. 12, 2019 at McCormick Place West in Chicago in conjunction with the 2019 United Soccer Coaches Convention.
