MCC women build lead at regionals

ROCHESTER - The MCC women's swimming and diving team positioned itself for another regional title after a strong showing Saturday at the 2017 Region III/Northeast District championship meet.

The Tribunes increased their point total to 318 heading to Sunday's final events. Fashion Institute of Technology is second at 243, followed by Genesee at 199.

Ashley VanDermeer, Megan Mack, and Heather Chrisman all picked up individual wins to propel the Tribunes further into the lead.

VanDermeer led off the winning 200 medley relay team to start the day for the Tribunes. She along with Chrisman, Alison Gregor, and Hallie Marquart won in a time of 2:00.74.

VanDermeer then took first in the 400 IM with a winning time of 5:07.34. Gregor (1:04.09) and Marquart (1:10.12) followed with a 2-3 finish in the 100 fly.

Mack continued her solid meet with a win in the 200 free (2:05.45). Chrisman's victory came next in the 100 breast (1:11.47).

VanDermeer, Marquart, Andrea Toussaint, and Mack wrapped up the evening with a second-place finish in the 800 free relay (8:58.06).
