Monroe sweeps first three regional matches

ROCHESTER - The MCC volleyball team opened up Region III play by winning all three matches on its home court Saturday afternoon.

The Tribunes (3-0 Region, 4-2 overall) dispensed North Country, Hudson Valley, and Adirondack in their first regional pod tournament of the season.

Monroe opened the day with a convincing win over North Country, sweeping the Saints 25-10, 25-3, 25-5.  Jessica Marini tallied 11 assists, eight aces, and four digs, while Laura Wyckoff and Tessa Engel added four aces apiece. Andrea Green chipped in with five kills with Chelsea Steinruck contributing four.

The Tribunes then dispatched Hudson Valley by the scores of 25-13, 25-16, 25-13. Green had a big match with five kills, five digs, and three blocks, while Engel had six digs and five kills. Danielle Tracy added five digs.

MCC then spotted Adirondack the first game before rebounding to take the next three. Scores were 22-25, 25-15, 26-24, 25-15 in favor of Monroe.

Marini had a huge match, tallying 38 assists to go along with 16 digs and five aces. Engel had 16 kills, Green had eight kills and 13 digs, and Essence Britt totaled eight kills as well. Jala McFadden chipped in with 12 digs.
