MCC volleyball goes 1-2 at Jefferson

WATERTOWN, New York - The MCC volleyball team won one out of three matches in a Region III pod tournament at Jefferson Community College on Saturday.

The Tribunes (4-2 in Region, 5-5 overall) lost to Jefferson and Onondaga before rebounding to defeat Cayuga.

MCC fell to the host Cannoneers 19-25, 17-25, 16-25 in the opener. Tessa Engel led the way with seven kills and 16 digs, Andrea Green added four kills, four blocks, and seven digs, and Jessica Marini had 15 assists and nine digs.

The Tribunes then lost to Onondaga 9-25, 20-25, 26-24, 26-28.  Engel registered a double-doubler with 14 kills and 11 digs, while Green tallied eight kills, 11 digs, and seven blocks. Laura Wyckoff added 12 digs and two aces and Marini had 26 assists and seven blocks.

Monroe salvaged the final match with Cayuga, winning in straight sets by the scores of 25-21, 25-16, 25-14. 

Engel recorded 15 kills and eight digs and Green had 11 kills, nine digs, and four blocks. Chelsea Steinruck finished with six kills and 12 digs.

Marini had 26 assists and Danielle Tracy chipped in with four kills, four blocks, and a pair of digs.
