MCC volleyball wins two more regional matches

BATAVIA, NY - The MCC volleyball team won two out of three matches at a Region III pod tournament at Genesee Community College on Saturday.

MCC lost to Fulton-Montgomery in four sets before rebounding to defeat Herkimer and Mohawk Valley. The Tribunes improved to 9-4 in regional play and 11-7 overall.

Monroe took the first set from Fulton before the Raiders came back to win the next three.  Scores were 25-22, 19-25, 12-25, 12-25.

Tessa Engel finished with 14 kills and 12 digs against Fulton. Essence Britt and Andrea Green added seven kills apiece and Chelsea Steinruck had six. Green also had five blocks, and Jessica Marini tallied 30 assists.

The Tribunes then swept Herkimer 25-18, 25-17, 25-15. Steinruck had eight kills, Britt added seven, and Engel and Danielle Tracy six each. Green put up six more blocks while Tracy chipped in with five.

MCC then rallied to defeat Mohawk in five sets, 20-25, 25-19, 14-25, 25-16, 16-14. Marini had a double-double with 39 assists and 14 digs, and Green came up big with 14 kills, seven blocks, and three aces.

Steinruck also had a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs, Britt compiled eight kills, and Engel added seven kills and 16 digs.
