Comeback bid falls just short for Monroe

ROCHESTER - In a match that traded momentum from set to set, it was Jamestown Community College that held on in the end for a 3-2 victory over Monroe Community College in a WNYAC volleyball match Tuesday evening.

The Jayhawks won the first two sets before the Tribunes (11-8) rallied to take the next two. MCC held the lead briefly in the deciding set before JCC pulled away.

Scores were 27-25, 25-12, 19-25, 15-25, 15-9 in favor of Jamestown.

Tessa Engel led MCC with 13 kills and 19 digs for her third double-double in the last five matches. Essence Britt had a huge match in the middle for Monroe. The sophomore tallied eight kills and a season-high 11 blocks.

Jessica Marini recorded 32 assists and also chipped in with 10 kills.  Chelsea Steinruck added 11 kills, while Andrea Green contributed 19 digs.
