Tribune volleyball wins Jefferson Invitational Tournament

WATERTOWN, New York - The MCC volleyball team kicked off the 2018 season by sweeping its way to the championship at the Jefferson CC Invitational Tournament Saturday.

The Tribunes (5-0) went unbeaten in pool play before dispatching Finger Lakes CC in the semifinals and host Jefferson in the title match. It is the second straight season Monroe has won the JIT.

MCC started the day with a 25-10, 25-5 win over Cayuga. The Tribunes then topped Herkimer 25-14, 25-22, and Corning, 25-14, 25-14 to finish 3-0 in pool play.

Next up was the semifinals against Finger Lakes. Monroe continued its hot play, taking down the Lakers 25-19, 25-13. MCC then knocked off Jefferson 25-23, 25-21 to cap the perfect day.

Hannah DeLorenzo did a bit of everything for the Tribunes.  The freshman finished with 50 assists, 38 kills, 28 digs, and 11 blocks on the day. Julie Cicotta added 25 kills and 28 digs, while Catherine Brumsted dished out 49 assists.

Stephany Paredes chipped in with 20 blocks, and Maryssa Greer tallied 46 digs.
