Tribs sweep three important regional matches

CANANDAIGUA, NY - The MCC volleyball team put itself back into favorable position in the Region III standings after winning three matches in a Pod tournament at Finger Lakes Community College on Saturday.

The Tribunes (14-6 overall) defeated Herkimer, Fulton-Montgomery, and Mohawk Valley to move to 8-5 in regional play and vault into seventh in the standings with four matches remaining. The top eight teams qualify for the regional tournament, putting Monroe in control of its own destiny.

MCC opened with a thriller of a match, defeating Herkimer in five tough sets, 22-25, 25-15, 25-15, 23-25, 15-13.  The Tribunes trailed 12-9 in the fifth set before rallying for the win.

Hannah DeLorenzo almost notched a triple-double, finishing with 14 kills, 27 assists, and nine digs. Julie Cicotta added a match-high 19 kills to go along with 16 digs, while Stephany Paredes totaled five kills and eight blocks. Miley Davila had 20 digs, and Maryssa Greer had 19.

Monroe took down Fulton-Montgomery in the day's middle match, winning 25-19, 25-18, 25-23. Cicotta had 11 kills and 10 digs, Paredes tallied eight kills, and DeLorenzo and Riley Moscicki had five and four kills, respectively. DeLorenzo and Catherine Brumsted combined for 25 assists.

The Tribunes finished the day with a four-set win over Mohawk Valley, 25-12, 23-25, 25-22, 25-4. DeLorenzo totaled 13 kills, 12 assists, and four aces, while Kierstin Hammond added 12 kills, 13 digs, and four aces.

Cicotta added another double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs, and Greer finished with 15 digs. Brumsted handed out 24 assists.
