ROCHESTER - The MCC women's lacrosse team made a statement Saturday afternoon, defeating third-ranked Anne Arundel CC 20-8 on John L. DiMarco Field.
No. 2 Monroe (3-0) raced to a 14-3 lead at the half and never looked back. The game was a rematch of last year's national semifinals, which the Tribunes won 7-6.
Melanie Murphy (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) led the way with seven points on four goals and three assists. She scored three straight in a span of 2:50 midway through the opening half to give MCC an 8-1 advantage.
Keirsten MacLellan (Baltimore, MD/Seton Keough) added five goals and an assist. Elizabeth Lacomb (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) had four goals and an assist, and Courtney Reuter (Newark, NY/Newark) scored three times.
Caitlin Cavallaro (Corning, NY/Corning East) and Alexandra Sportini (Monroe, CT/Masuk) combined to stop nine shots in goal.
Gina Akel (Ogden, NY/Churchville-Chili) chipped in with two goals and an assist, and Gabby Farina (Penfield, NY/Penfield) and Brianna Everson (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) had one goal each.
