SYRACUSE - The top-ranked MCC women's lacrosse team exacted a measure of revenge Saturday, taking down No. 2 Onondaga CC 12-9 in a key regional battle.
The previous time the two rivals met was last year's national title game, when the Lazers edged the Tribunes 6-5 on a last-second goal.
Hannah Barnett (Gorham, NY/Marcus Whitman) led Monroe with four goals. Keirsten MacLellan (Baltimore, MD/Seton Keough) and Courtney O'Hara (Greece, NY/Greece Arcadia) added two goals each.
Caitlin Cavallaro (Corning, NY/Corning East) had another strong outing goal, stopping 15 shots.
Courtney Reuter (Newark, NY/Newark) chipped in with a goal and two assists, and Molly Gray (Gorham, NY/Marcus Whitman) and Melanie Murphy (Syracuzse, NY/West Genesee) had a goal and an assist apiece. Gina Akel (Ogden, NY/Churchville-Chili) also scored for Monroe.
