Ricotta named first team All-American
The sophomore made history in 2017.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - After a historic season that saw him shatter a few storied MCC records, sophomore first baseman John Ricotta has been named an NJCAA first team All-American.
Ricotta led Monroe (22-28) in a number of offensive categories, including the three triple crown categories. He batted .410 with 15 home runs and 61 RBIs on the season.
The Ball State University commit also paced the Tribunes in at bats (173), hits (71), on base percentage (.457), and slugging percentage (.815).
Ricotta smashed the single-season home run record of 12 that was set by Brian Stevens in 1989 and equaled by Nelson Santos in 2006. He also finished his career with 20 roundtrippers, which breaks Santos's old mark of 18.
Ricotta tied the single-game home run record after blasting three in a 12-4 win over Mercyhurst North East on April 22.
In addition, Ricotta set new single-season standards with 36 extra base hits and 141 total bases in 2017. He also set the mark in career total bases (237) and his two-year RBI total of 126 ties him with Santos atop the MCC record books.
