ROCHESTER - Battling back while two players down, the Monroe Community College Tribunes (11-1) scored on an ECC power play with 15:04 remaining in the third period en route to a 13-3 victory against the visiting Erie Community College Kats (5-7) Wednesday evening.
Freshman Martin Matejcek recorded a hat trick and also had two assists for the Tribunes, who had nine players score at least once against the Kats. The 13 goals were the most scored against ECC this season.
MCC dominated possession from the outset, though Erie took an early lead with a shot from sophomore Brad Ferrell on a save deflection with 13:41 left in the first. The Tribunes, sparked by a shot from behind the goal by freshman Dominik Gabaj, scored five straight to put the game out of reach.
Entering the game, Monroe led the nation averaging 10 goals per game, a number which will increase after Wednesday's match. The Tribunes have now won five consecutive games for the second time this season and scored in double digits for three straight.
Gabaj finished with two goals and three assists and Lakoda Coleman also scored twice.
MCC led 2-1 after the first period before scoring five goals in the second period and six in the third.
Monroe Community College will next host the Syracuse Stampede (17-3-0-1) on Friday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m.
