ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Monroe Community College stayed undefeated on the season with a 2-0 home victory over #3 Cayuga Community College (D III) in a batlle of Region III Programs.
The Tribunes (8-0-0, 1-0) got on the board early in the first half when sophomore midfielder Haato Efune netted a goal off a feed from Caleb Hughes in the 11th minute. Hughes returned the favor later in the period, scoring in the 20th minute with an assist from Efune, giving Monroe a 2-0 lead they would maintain for the rest of the match.
Monroe controlled much of the action, outshooting Cayuga 26-4 and holding a 15-3 advantage on shots on goal. Goalkeeper Koki Naito recorded three saves to preserve the shutout, while Cayuga's Matthew Chitty stopped 13 shots in defeat.
The Tribunes also edged Cayuga in corner kicks, 6-0
Monroe's strong defensive performance, combined with clinical finishing from Hughes and Efune, helped the team maintain their perfect start to the season. Cayuga, now 5-2-0 (3-1), struggled to break through Monroe's backline despite creating a few chances.
