Tribune Softball Wins Four Straight to Clinch Spot in Regionals
QUEENSBURY, N.Y. -- Monroe Community College Softball capped off the regular season with a sweep of SUNY Adirondack to notch the team's third and fourth consecutive wins in two days. With a strong weekend performance, the Tribunes punched their ticket into the NJCAA North B District Tournament and have drawn #2 Hudson Valley CC in the Sub-Regional Round.
GAME ONE
Monroe Community College softball put together a complete performance Sunday afternoon, powering past SUNY Adirondack, 12–2, in five innings.
After giving up a run in the bottom of the first, the Tribunes wasted little time responding. Maddie Robinson evened things up in the second with an RBI single, and Monroe took full control an inning later with a five-run third.
Olivia Miles delivered the big hit in that frame, driving in two with a single to right. Reagan Bannister followed with an RBI double, and Robinson stayed hot with another extra-base hit to cap the rally.
Monroe kept the pressure on from there. Abbie DeRock helped her own cause with an RBI double in the fourth, and the Tribunes broke things open in the fifth. Jenny Walter highlighted the inning with a three-run double to center, while Kaydence Morrissette added a sacrifice fly as the lead grew to double digits.
Robinson led the offense with a 3-for-3 day and two RBIs, while Walter scored three times and drove in a pair. Bannister finished with two hits and two runs scored, and Miles added two RBIs of her own as part of an 11-hit attack.
In the circle, DeRock was in control throughout. The right-hander tossed a complete game, allowing just two hits while striking out eight. The only damage came on an RBI triple in the first and a solo home run in the fourth.
SUNY Adirondack committed four errors in the game, and Monroe took advantage, scoring 12 runs—nine of them earned.
With the win, the Tribunes showed both offensive depth and consistency in the circle, closing out the game early with a strong all-around effort.
GAME TWO
Monroe Community College softball capped off a doubleheader sweep Sunday with an 8–7 win over SUNY Adirondack in a back-and-forth game at Tribune Field.
Monroe jumped in front early, scoring twice in the first. Jenny Walter and Amber Kohlmeier each delivered run-producing hits to give the Tribunes the quick edge.
SUNY Adirondack answered with three runs over the next two innings to take the lead, but Monroe didn't let it last long. The Tribunes tied it in the third and kept the pressure on, adding single runs in the fourth and fifth before a two-run sixth inning gave them some breathing room.
That cushion proved important late. SUNY Adirondack put together a rally in the seventh, scoring twice to pull within one, but Monroe held on to finish off the sweep.
Walter led the way at the top of the lineup, going 4-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. Olivia Miles matched her with four hits, continuing a strong day at the plate. Kohlmeier provided the biggest swing, driving in three runs and homering as part of a two-hit game.
The Tribunes finished with 14 hits, with production spread throughout the lineup.
With the victory, the Tribunes completed the doubleheader sweep and closed out the day with a pair of strong offensive performances.
