Tribunes Open WNYAC Play With Three-Set Sweep of SUNY Niagara
SANBORN, N.Y. -- Monroe Community College volleyball opened the 2025 season in dominant fashion Thursday night, sweeping SUNY Niagara on the road, 25-18, 26-24, 25-16.
The Tribunes (1-0) used strong serving and a stifling defensive effort to take control early and never let up, earning their first win of the year in straight sets.
Sophomore setter Lily Stalica (Bergen, NY) turned in a standout all-around performance, dishing out 19 assists, tallying 7 service aces, and leading all players with 20 digs. Stalica's poise and tempo helped Monroe overcome a slow offensive start to close the match with confidence.
Madalyn Robinson (Attica, NY) led Monroe in kills with 7, adding 3 aces and 19 digs for a match-high 10 total points. Freshman Jenna Tracy (Hilton, NY) chipped in 6 kills and a block assist, while Peyton Goodenbery (Bergen, NY) added 4 kills and 3 service aces.
Monroe racked up 17 total service aces and out-dug SUNY Niagara 76–34. Defensively, Nevaeh Wells (Geneva, NY) anchored the middle with 3 block assists, helping hold the Thunderwolves to a team hitting percentage of -.008.
After a back-and-forth second set, the Tribunes closed out the match with a strong third frame, hitting .161 and limiting Niagara to just 16 points.
With the win, Monroe improves to 1–0 and sets the tone for a promising campaign.
The Tribunes return to action next week when they travel to face Finger Lakes CC on Tuesday, September 9.
